Not for the Faint of Heart

Servant Leaders spend regular time in God’s Word. They show up to it.

Here at First Trinity, we’ve been wrestling with how to encourage, equip and help our people get into God’s Word when they are away from our building. We recently took the Reveal Study and learned that we have a big need to help people learn to read the Bible on their own. Reading plans seem like one way to get at that. They are all over the place, these days: YouVersion.com, Zondervan.com, and BibleGateway.com, to name just a few.

I came across one today that is not for the faint of heart (10 chapters of the Scriptures a day!), but it is certainly intriguing. Professor Grant Horner’s Bible-Reading System. Don’t know that I’m in a place to commit to it right now…anyone else?

What’s your experience with Bible Reading Plans?

Nov. 2010 – Jan. 2011 I was blessed by “The Bible in 90 Days”. I did actually buy a copy of the Bible set up for this, just to make it easier on myself.

Before that I had read every book of the Bible. Some more than once. Bits and pieces repeatedly. Favorite parts without ceasing. This was the first time from Genesis to Revelation. It was an amazing experience for me to get a different picture of God’s Word. Sort of put the pieces together.

One amazing piece is the many times what was in the assigned 12 pages for the day was exactly what I needed to hear from God that day… didn’t matter if I was deep in the midst of Mosaic law, walking through the Psalms, listening to Minor Prophets, hearing Jesus’ voice in the Gospels, being taught along with the early church through the letters of Paul… God met me there. Talked to me there. Encouraged me, comforted me, convicted me… whatever I needed to hear that day.

God is so good that way.
